Aunty Kamaile’s Hawaiian Studies Curriculum

*This Curriculum was created for the Hawaiian Studies Program at Pacific Heritage Academy in Rose Park, Utah.

Mission:
Our mission is to further Education, Resources and Technology to share as a World Community. We use the Ancient ways of the Hawaiian People to stay in touch with our World and solve our most complicated Issues. We believe in a Community Based Education as a means to study and develop understanding of Current Event or Needs of the Community. We are committed to building mutually beneficial relationships in order to collaborate with others and share these with the World Community.
Purpose:

To Empower Children to seek out and solve problems by use of techniques based within the Hawaiian Culture. These are, but not limited to; Exploration, Sustainable Development and Social interaction.

Daily Activities:
I. Exploration – Provide daily experience to explore, examine & problem solve.

  1. Explore interest in Careers.
  2. Explore interest in Arts.
  3. Speakers and Demonstrations related to each individual Child's interests.

II. Current Events – Weather, Date and News of the Day.

     *Teaches Kids to be in touch with their Community and as a whole be able to understand opportunities in Society to create change.

           *Teaches Kids Sustainable Development within Hawaiian Cultural practices. Teaches Students to utilize interests as a navigator and social media as a vessel to connect with opportunity.

II Trip to Hawaii -*8th Grade Students Graduating the PHA Program will travel to Hawaii for Distance Education;

     A. Lo'i ~ Volunteer a day in the Taro Patch.
     B. Botanical Gardens ~ Study the species of Hawaiian Flora and Fauna, comparing them to their cousins in other parts of the World.
     C. Beach ~ Stand-up Paddle, Surfing & Canoe Paddling.
     D. Iolani Palace ~ Study the events leading up to the Overthrow, follow the legacy of Hawaiian Monarchy.
     E. Bishop Museum ~ Study Duke Kahanamoku Exhibit/Formation of Hawaiian Islands.
     F. A day in Kailua Town to learn about where Kumu Kamaile grew up ~
