Today in Class:
Kumu encourages you to read free papers like "Pets in the City", "City Weekly", "Devour Utah" & "Utah Review". As a means to find interesting information which we will share with each other. A Student chose this article to read and we discussed it briefly ~ http://m.cityweekly.net/utah/power-struggle/Content?oid=2927440
We learned to spell Kumu Kamaile's name.
We learned the sounds of the Hawaiian Alphabet.
(Kumu accidentally had one extra letter, Students caught this discrepancy asked for the corrected information and were very curious about the missing letter. Good problem solving skills everyone!)
We read about Henry ʻŌpūkahaʻia and his contribution to written Hawaiian Language.
We read the words along with the song; Hawaii Aloha and learned the History of it's origin.
We watched a short History video of Duke Kahanamoku.
We talked about the "Overthrow" of the Hawaiian Monarchy.
We discussed the immigration of People from Marquesas and Tahiti.
We learned about the loss of Hawaiian Heritage and Restoration.
We learned about Ka'ahumanu and the Kapu system.
Students were engaged, asked questions, were very helpful to Me & one another. Students expressed a desire to learn more and helped determine the future of the Curriculum by stating their own personal interests ~ Mahalo
