Discussion about Stabbing at West High

A Student mentioned a likeness to a game called "Whack your Teacher"

Kumu asked "Are you that easily influenced?" A unanimous "NO!"

Kumu said "Do you think it starts with learning right from wrong?"

Here is a simple exercise to teach you something about the Human Mind.

Paper People Exercise

Supplies:

One piece of Paper per Student

Directions:

1) Crumple up the Paper, step on it and mess it up real good.
(There were rather aggressive throws and stomps)
2) Now restore it.

Statement:
This is the way our mentality works. When we are emotionally injured our mentality is disturbed or crinkled like the lines in that paper. Sure you could smooth it out but you can never return it to it's original state.

3) Write a letter on this paper, asking someone to forgive you. Someone you feel you need to apologize to. You don't even have to really give it to them. The point of this exercise it to take responsibility for the way we make others feel.

Even, myself, as an Adult have to be conscious of the energy I put out into the World. People sometimes upset me. But I can't go around town getting into arguments with People. Bad things happen. We can take responsibility for the way we treat others and be more conscious of what they are feeling.

Brief Hawaiian History

Attack on Pearl Harbor

Statement: The Japanese had a military advantage because the US had all of their Carriers in one place. With the US debilitated, within 2 weeks Japan invades & occupies Brunei. Britain would later intervene and Brunei would gain Independence in 1984. Brunei is currently a very wealthy Country.

Discussion about Immigrants to Germany

Statement: I hope you will take a genuine interest in what is going on in Germany right now. In 20 years when you have your own Kids, you will be able to reflect on this and see the progress they have made.

Closing statement: In the Hawaiian History Documentary they talked about the Hawaiian Pearls from Pearl Harbor. I used to think that the Hawaiian Pearl species was wiped out. However, they are still around.
~

Statement: I want you to imagine that, Just like that apology on a piece of paper. You can smooth things out to a workable place. We can have that conversation with ourselves and choose right from wrong.
